Explain how people’s differences in their definition of success influence the way they lead their lives.
Success means different things to different people. We are surrounded by examples of success. Steven Jobs is an icon of success. He had created the most famous brand of mobile phone. You can hear many moms telling their children that they should keep their dream and put effort as much as possible, the dream will come true. You hear teacher in school telling you about successful people in their career. According the data of survey, there are six types of success, different people view success differently: mainly in the ways of puritan, escapist and a contributor.Puritan is the view that working is the key to success. People have that view is usually work as hard as possible. It’s mean the more working they do, the more success they will get. Every single achievement will be a motivation for them to maintain their effort. Thomas Edison is an example for that view. He had failed one thousand times before the light bulb had been invented successfully. After inventing light bulb, he had been successful in inventing motion picture. It was the invention which born the movie industry. According to the six types of success of Daniel Midson-Short, each achievement adds more to their sense of worthiness, and there is always another goal once the current one is achieved. Base on this information, we can know that puritan people are usually having a high motivation and determine them to try their best to achieve their dream.
Feeling success with a new experience is the person who has escapist view. According to the six types of success, these people believe life is simply one big experience. Our time on earth is meant to lived to the fullest and we are meant to “live deep and suck out all the marrow of life,” as Thoreaux famously espoused. These types of people are always searching for fun, for experience and for the next thing to get them excited. They want to try all things what they have never go through before. For example, sometimes you can see some people who change their job for 2 or 3 times in only one year. People who have that view are easy to feel boring when doing a thing for a long time. They try to find some brand new experience to have pleasure by changing their work.
People who have contributor view are very helpful for social. Contributors are usually creating best things for another people to improve the life condition and make the life better. by discovering and inventing a brand new helpful knowledge or technology to help people, contributors are step by step improving the life of many people. For example, many new medicines have been created to decrease the number of death because of disease and there are many new technologies have been invented to serve people. These inventions have been created to make people’s life become easier. There many famous inventors who have spend all their own life to serve the world. Sir Alexander Fleming had invented penicillin which is a powerful medicine to solve the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible, usually Gram-positive, organisms. Bill Gates is also an icon of contributor, he has created Microsoft company where all the most famous windows and applications come from. With Microsoft’s technology, many works have been done in very easy ways.
In my opinion, although each people have a difference definition about success but the most important key is people have to know what their success view is. After defining the style of view, they have to choose the right dream for them to archive. It will be quite easy for them to make their dream come true with a high motivation and many efforts they put into.
